The Container Store just opened in the El Segundo shopping center, The space was formerly Borders Books. The store is big, new and fresh. I got there in the later part of the afternoon so parking was more full than usual, but I was able to get a space fast. This store is about organization and big retail prices. While the prices are fair on some items, similar items can be found cheaper at Target and other discount stores. There are a lot of items here that are pretty exclusive to the store. While there are some things at decent prices, some things are super expensive. The higher end stuff has good quality and the lower end stuff is average quality. The office area has a large selection of things that are great for a home office. I did not find anything sturdy enough for a commercial office. The closet section is the best part of the whole store. There was a great selection for organizing just about anything. Is retail back? Hmmm not sure. When big box stores close and the properties stay vacant for long periods of time, it’s an indication of a faltering economy. That was the case here with Borders closing. The Container Store snapped up the space and perhaps it means these types of large retailers have faith of consumer confidence.
